Davis & Co is one of our newest clients. They are a modern chartered accounting firm on the Kapiti Coast, north of Wellington, New Zealand.

With a desire to enhance their offering to clients, Director, Mike Davis, approached The Back Room several months ago looking for support with prepping and drafting work. They wanted to free up their senior accountants to spend more time face-to-face with clients.

After four months working with Davis & Co, we asked senior accountant, April Close how things were going with their offshore team at The Back Room.

Impressive work ethic

We’re delighted that our team has exceeded Davis & Co’s expectations. April says:

“We have allocated our team more difficult work than we were advised to give but we are so very impressed with their work ethic and desire to learn and grow as individuals. Their willingness to go the extra mile is very well respected.”

Improved workflow

April explains that the workflow of repetitive tasks has become more efficient as a result of collaborating with the Back Room.

April schedules tasks via XPM (Xero Practice Manager) and the off-shore team work through the job. They ask questions via Slack or video call if necessary, and let April know when tasks are running low.

“We appreciate when our team think about the questions they ask, come to us with a solution they believe is logical and ask us for confirmation. It really shows initiative.”

Video tutorials made by April help with explaining more complex tasks and specifics on clients. The videos are a useful resource for bringing others up to speed if needed.

Next steps

We’re excited to move forward with Davis & Co and help grow their business; April sees that Yorin and Karl will be part of this future.

“A focus on the ‘bigger picture’ will be their next element of learning. That is, knowing why we do certain transactions, and how it affects many different areas.

“We are very lucky to have Yorin and Karl as integral members of our Davis and Co team.”
